The organizer of this conference gives us a theme “Spirituality and Science”. As a follower of Onisaburo Deguchi, today, I would like to talk about what he says regarding relationships between spirituality and science. My subject of the speech is “Is the Science Universal?”
Onisaburo Deguchi devoted whole his life to a noble cause which is to reorganize whole worlds including spiritual worlds and heaven as well as this material world and bring peace and happiness to each world. For people to practice his teaching, he made writers to record contents of his teaching. He also proofread it and left it for all of us as a book. The book is one of his masterpieces and is called “Reikai Monogatari” literally meaning “Story of Spiritual Worlds”. The book is written in narrative style so that everyone can understand it easily, and it is important to be easily understood because the book’s objective is to teach everyone through children to adults.
In the book, he defines three major values or notions that have been predominant among people in the world through the history. Firstly, it is called “Rei shu Tai Jyuh” means “spirit-top-body-bottom”. This is a way of thinking that the spiritual world or our soul are the most important and put them on the top of body or
the material world. Secondly, it is called ”Tai Shu Rei Jyuh” means “body-top-spirit-bottom”. According to this thought, this material world comes first above anything else, and the spiritual world and our soul are considered to be dependent on the material world and our body. Thirdly, it is called ”Riki Shu Tai Rei” means “Power-top-body-spirit-bottom”. According to this thought, power is always considered the most important, next comes material existence, and our soul is considered the last. This is more like the law in the animal world where the strongest survive.
Now, what do you think science is classified in these three categories? I think it is “body-top-spirit-bottom” because science is a study that starts from analyzing the material world. It is true that science has been contributing to improve our life and civilizations of human beings. However, I can’t help but asking myself that if science is perfect. Development of science and technology bring us tragedies as well as happiness. We Japanese experienced atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of the World War Ⅱ, and still the survivors are suffering from aftermaths caused by radiation. To talk about nuclear issues, we human beings have obtained an extremely dangerous tool that can extinguish ourselves when it is used as a weapon.
Today, we are facing many problems such as environmental pollution, and a gap between the rich and the poor caused by globalization. I think these problems are mostly based on mismatch between immature science and equally immature human spirituality.
For example, let’s say, here is a kitchen knife which is a necessary tool for cooking. I use it everyday to prepare food for my family and sometimes to treat my guests. A kitchen knife is something essential to maintain our life, and, in that sense, a kitchen knife is a cultural tool. However, if I tried to kill somebody by using the kitchen knife, at the time I thought about it, it would change to a weapon. I think exactly the same thing could be said for science. Today, immature science threatens peace and happiness of human beings, and at this time, I believe that the most important thing for us is to have a right belief.
But, unfortunately, now the world is controlled by those who rely on immature science, those who forget how precious life is, and those who keep waging an economical and an actual war.
Science without spirituality brings people unhappiness. Spirituality is not only for developing people’s rationality. It is not until people know existence of God, recognize the spiritual world, and have faithful mind that they can deepen their spirituality which is to respect others, respect life, and have remorseful mind. As I mentioned before, the world today seems to fall in confusion. But I have a hope that human beings have wisdom to solve those problems because I believe that a key to solve the problems is in “Reikai Monogatari” written by Onisaburo Deguchi. I would like to introduce a part of story from the book.
By the way, I think so many inspirations are filled in this book. However if you would consider this story is absurd, you will get nothing. While persons those who can get some valuable messages in it, they will consider this book as a gold mine. The seal of “Reikai Monogatari” had been closed during long time, but was released since 17 years ago / Dec. 1989/. Now I would like to expect you, dear literates will find some of messages or hints for future from these pieces of book.
From Reikai Monogatari vol.15th / 19th chapter/ The first Heaven /
Plot
Kotoyoriwake a famed as a propagandist of “ Ananai Religon” was taking a trip to Mt.Ubusuna together to Tamahiko, Izuhiko, and Kusuhiko. They were on long journey through Fusa /Iran/ progressing to God Palace where the God “Susanoo” based in high land of Mt. Ubusuna in Iran.
“Susanoo” means the Messiah. The God Susanoo was continuing to wonder the world for satisfaction of every one. Earier Susanoo left Takaamahara in Japan and wandered in China, Korea, India, Tibet and Iran. Then God Susanoo decided to construct a Palace at beautiful high land of Mt. Ubusuna in Fusa /Iran/.
Kotoyoriwake and his follower wanted to meet to God Susanoo heartly. They were going on their journey having this destination. When they were on rugged way at Kajika pass, they fell down into deep valley by violent wind all together. Four persons got wound and were suffering on mountain stream. Then they lost their souls and left from the ground swallowed up by beautiful cloud.
Four souls flew to east and arrived at beautiful stream on the root of the higher mountain. Kotoyoriwake and three followers were conscious of being in heaven, because there were beautiful pieces of scenery, so many birds were singing and flower smelling. They were talking around these situations there.
Text of 19th chapter /The first Heaven/
One angel silently arrived there boarding on substantial and beautiful ship. The ship called “Amano Iwafune” is varnished up in gold, silver and many jewels. The wing of ship is made of special fabric. The fabric was neither silk nor wool, and was strong and flexible. At the touched moment of the wing by hand, it sounded fine tone.
Tamahiko patted the wing to the right and left, at that time, he could hear much more beautiful tones like as music record.
When Tamahiko and others were hearing the beautiful tone, eight children angels came out from the ship. Angels looked like 5 or 6 years old, told to Kotoyoriwake “ Are you Sir Kotoyoriwake, behind of Fresh Soul God Mizuno Mitama” aren’t you?” “Please take this ship sooner. We came here for pick you up by order of God” Angels told messages to him as this with respecting. Kotoyoriwake was interested in this ship and near the ship. At this moment, the beautiful wing folds his body into the ship. As soon as the beautiful tone sounded, ship left up the place and drawing circle in sky slowly. Then ship “Amano Iwafune” flew to the moon, and disappeared completely.

These are my comments as follows.
There are explanations around air ship “Amano Iwafune” deserves my attention. Onisaburo is talking about heaven and future of “50th century”. He would like to tell us the science will be developed more pleasantly, comfortably and mildly support human being. And he is speaking spiritual world and technical situations in his masterpieces.
According to this story, human being will get peaceful world without war in future. How and what is told in chapter 20th “50 century” by Onisaburo? If you would like and are interested in it, please try to lead a piece of text.

Reikai Monogatari vol.15th / 20th chapter / 50th century
/From the 50th century:
A Five people’s group of men and women is coming this way. They are waddling
and holding their hands each other. All of them are around 2 feet tall.
Tamahiko says “Ho, small people are coming. This seems be an island of
small people. Are there that small people living in heaven Matsuhiko”?
Matsuhiko answers “Not only in heaven but the situation is the same on
the earth. The material world corresponds to the spiritual world. Even
a really tall man on the earth is around 3 feet tall. If you get 1 foot
8 inches, you are average. They are living on the earth but their spiritual
bodies are visiting this Takaamahara Heaven. They hold their hands; otherwise
a crane will pick them up and bring them to a high place.”
Tamahiko says “I am getting more confused. We have been all around the
earth starting from Tokoyo but never have we seen people who are less
than 6 feet tall. Even a baby has a body of that size on earth. This must
be some kind of mistake don’t you think Matsuhiko”?
Matsuhiko answers “Your saying people whose height is more than 6 feet
lived in more than 350,000 years ago. 350,000 years have passed since
you passed away at Kajika Pass. On earth, now it is called the 50th century.
It is 3,000 years later from the 20th century where people of small spirit
lived, and 5,000 years later from the birth of Jesus Christ. As development
of technology, people get to avoid trouble to use their bodies. They use
cars, trains, ships, and air planes instead of using their own two feet.
Since they don’t use their bodies at all, their bodies have gotten weaker
and weaker, and at last their bodies have shrank that small in 50th century.
However, people who believe in Ananai, faithfully practice its teaching,
and willingly take trouble to work are still keeping more than 6 feet
tall bodies. They are doing great job both in the spiritual world and
the material world embodying their bodies as places where spirit of God
stays. They should be called Maitreya race”.
Three of them say “We thought we died at Kajika Pass last night but it
has already passed 350,000 years. Even though there is no time in heaven,
this is too fast”.
Matsuhiko says “Well, let’s talk about rest of the story after we get
the sanctuary. God is waiting for us. Now gentlemen, Shall we get going”?
(Matsuhiko start walking ahead of them).
